Rob: >We have crises in protein production - no fish in the sea and tainted ones in >the fish-farms - and perhaps an agriculture system no longer capable of >guaranteeing good protein to hungry mouths ... Julien: I'm not a nutritionist, but I know that one doesn't need a lot of fish or meat to survive. .... Are those useless proteins??? Tom: The problem is in basing the nutrition of too many of us 6 billion on a meat-based diet. It's unsustainable. (shortly to be understood when the petrochemicals go away.) 90% of US grain production goes to feed livestock, about 3 orders of magnitude less efficient than using those agricultural products to feed the starving oppressed. BTW, Rob, if you include a few stray insects getting accidentally ingested in a plant-based diet, you can supply all the nutrients a human requires. <g> _______________________________________________ CrashList website: http://website.lineone.net/~resource_base
