Cool down Charles. And quit this moralist way of looking at things. The USA did
react to the SU in ways which created much agony. This is a pragmatic
observation, whether or not Chile is an example (probably not). From this does not
follow that the SU had no "right to exist" (whatever that means). Nobody implied
that. And nobody blames the SU for Chile.
I do belive that the SU shouldn't have had such a big military but for completely
different reasons which have nothing to do with morals or with Chile.
BTW, not only was Allende (& gang) guilty of naivete, but at some point he also
had to choose between fighting and surrendering. He choose none. He choose
instead some kind of heroic and legalist stance... his country was inflicted a fair
share of the sad consequences of fighting while defeat was assured.
