And let's face it. The US government was competing for credibility with
the Soviet Union in the post-colonial vacuum. Apatheid in the US was
creating problems with that.

CB: Gerald Horne writes on this issue extensively. The Civil Rights Movement in the
U.S. as benefitting from the U.S. competing with the SU around the world based on the
U.S. being the champion of freedom, but turning the lynchers and dogs on Negroes at
home.

Hairsplitting is what I expected, but it doesn't change the fact that
capital, when all else fails, will kill you. With a machete or a Cruise
Missile. Again, denial is denial. Disciplined revolutionary organizations
are all that have ever challenged power at that level and all that ever
will. Are there vulnerabilities, like infiltration and massive loss of
cadres? Yup. So what! Does that mean we don't do it? Do we just keep
pining away in our bubbles, searching for risk-free alternatives? Sorry, I
don't buy it. Lead, follow, or get out of the way.

CB: The bourgeoisie will resort to violence first. They always have. We have to be
like girl scouts and be prepared.

"...all truly great scientific abstractions are both universal and simple.
They are simple not because they explain so little but because they explain
so much. Generality does not arise because an abstraction represents
everything that could possibly happen, but because it remains valid no
matter what happens."
