It's one reason why I made a decision to be openly gay - so that people would see someone gay and not in fact a demon, and maybe their opinions would change a little, and maybe other gay people would feel a (very) little safer. I haven't been able to get to LGM for a couple of years, unfortunately, because W3C can not in general pay for staff to go to conferences.
