We were looking at the Mazda MX-6 V6 a while back and this guy had one
in "fair" shape (burning oil a bit) and was asking hundreds more than
blue book. I showed him the printouts from kbb.com and he said he found
the same figures but his bank claims it's worth more, like they were
using an older blue book or something. If we bought it for his asking
price, he would still be out those hundreds since he owed more than that
on the loan!
So if this guy got it appraised at $31.9k for insurance purposes then I
suspect similar figure fudging. I always thought the more crap you do to
a car lowers it's value, if not leave it the same. Sure parts cost
bucks, but once installed they are all "used" parts immediately losing
half their value. People that have bought parts off of others have had
this experience as I have. Plus, you don't put performance parts on a
car to drive it like it is stock. I know I sure haven't.
