I've only *washed* mine once since installing it back in October of
1999. I used a cleaner made by K&N. I've never really taken the time to
read the back to see what chemicals are actually in there. Hm. :^\

I also used the same oil from K&N. It came in a aerosol can and you just
lightly spray the pleats (going in the same direction as the pleat).

My basic cleaning is nothing more than removing the filter, tapping it
lightly with my fox-tail hand broom to knock off the dirt and then I
lightly brush the cleats with the same hand broom. Then I re-oil it as per
the instructions on the back of the K&N oiler.

I believe you can get both the K&N cleaner and oiler from Pep Boy's but I
got mine from Off Road Warehouse. I went to the AEM web site and I don't
see any mention of a cleaner or oiler from them but I seem to recall it
being mentioned on that sheet of paper (the installation instructions)
which came with my kit. I'll have to look and see. But I would think that
if AEM required a special cleaner and oiler (or at least cleaning and
oiling instructions) that it would be posted on their web site. Although I
did see their recall on the bypass valves. :^O
