Craig,

I bought an SDS system several years ago after doing a lot of research of
programmable EFI sysyems. This was for my SCCA E Produciton road race CRX
Si.

Price drove the selection to the SDS but when I opened it, the cheapness
showed. The SDS looked like a refugee from Radio Shack with a range of tiny,
loose wires that inspired lttile to no confidence. Looked more like a
science fair project than something I just dumped $1100 on. I selected
against the TEC II based partly on price and partly on racers who had
reliabiltiy problems with wiring and pickups. One guy said to plan to drop
out of at least one race per year with wiring or sensor failure. I never
actually used the SDS system as soon thereafter several systems like Z-dyne
and Hondata came out allowing you to use the actual Honda wiring and
processors. Some pretty highly regarded folks suggested that you just can't
beat real Honda components for reliability and processing speed. I sold the
SDS having only even been out of the box once at a large loss just to buy
the Z-dyne system (Hondata doesn't make a system for non-VTEC cars). I
still haven't used the Z-dyne myself but have loaned the box to a racer
friend who is doing some dyno comparisons with a number of systems. No
response yet though. I intend to run it soon in the street ZC when not in
the racecar.

Anyone know why so much programmable EFI comes from Australia? I see that
the Wolf has an .au address, I met the Hondata guys two years ago and they
are Aussies, and Haltech (one of the very first programmables) were from
there as well. What's up with the land of Oz that makes them so hot in this
area?

Lee
