Well after driving it for a week I've noticed a few things, positive and
negative...
1.) Its much heavier, and it shows. Its like using a sledgehammer instead
of a scalpel. Compared to a crx that's been dropped 2 inches, this thing is
a boat. Had to get used to parking it.
2.) The creature comforts are nice. Its a more comfortable car.
3.) Its not as fun to drive. Kinda ties in the weight issue. The CRX was
kind of like driving a Go-kart, instant reflexes, great handling, feedback
that made the car feel like an extension of the driver. The Prelude kind of
dulls all that down a little. I may gripe about the handling a little more
then normal, but that's because the CRX was hella stiff and handled like a
demon possessed, while the prelude is still bone stock. It handles well,
just doesn't feel a confidence inspiring as the CRX did at the limit.
4.) Torque is now my friend. It pulls like a completely different animal.
Put your foot down at 2k RPM, and something actually happens with some
authority. This may be because all I had in the rex was a ZC, but still,
the H22 feels much smoother and feels like it happier to move the car. My
girlfriend kinda summed it up on her first ride. "The CRX felt like it was
trying hard to go fast. This just goes fast." Remember before all you
turbo ZC and B series boys jump on me for that, the only reference I have
here is N/A ZC vs. H22a, I think you could see why she would say that.
those are the main things I've noticed. The interior styling is most
assuredly Honda in both cars. Do I miss the CRX? Oh yeah, but I definitely
enjoy the prelude for different reasons. Will I purchase another CRX when
funds permit a second or weekend car? definitely. They are GREAT cars, I
LOVED mine. But the prelude ain't too shabby either. There are definitely
handling similarities between the cars, I noticed it the same as you did.
I'm sure once I tighten up the suspension and make use of the Prelude's
stiff chassis, it will feel nice. But the CRX will probably hold my
twisties king title for a long time to come.
There we go. good enough of a review? :)
