Hey- Just installed the MSD adjustable timing control (P/N 8680) and holy cat, it's like dial-up horsepower. For those of you who haven't followed this saga, I've been trying to fine-tune my built-up D16Z6 (high-comp. rings, adjusted Gude cam, shaved head, etc. --> built for speed by Erik Coxe). After adding the MSD 6A, MSD cap, & Blaster SS coil, I've been spending a few months trying to find the sweet spot on the ignition timing.
The results show that for daily driving, the timing needs to be a few degrees more advanced to not kill the low end. However, retarding the timing a few degrees more towards TDC yields much better high end power. After a quick search at www.msdignition.com, I found the answer- the adjustable timing control. The kit comes with a knob which I mounted on the dash just to the right of the steering column. Driving at steady speed you don't notice it when you turn the knob for slight adjustments (it allows for up to +/-7 deg.), it's when you punch it that the engine totally changes personality. Too cool. :) George '89 DX-Hybrid-D16Z6, 125k miles "Seats, Suspension, Engine, MSD, next=dyno"
