As a current international off road racer, I can attest to the instinct of
putting your hands out during a rollover. I have had to train myself to grip
the wheel tightly during a rollover. Some of us wear arm restraints that
keep us from raising our arms too high. I have known some who suffered from
broken or partially severed arms during a rollover incident. It is not a
pretty picture. I also feel much more comfortable knowing that the CRX did
good to protect its occupants in the event of a "shiny side" down incident.
I am so glad that you did not get hurt.

Michael,

Fortunately you withstood the instinct to stick your
hands up to keep yourself planted, and damn good thing
you were wearing your seltbelt, I've seen the affects
of people heads hitting the grinder through the
sunroof in a rollover... It makes quite a mess to say
the least.
At least you weren't hurt, and the rex looks very much
salvagable. I guess its a good thing to know the rex
can survive such upside-down driving. Though probably
not the best way to find out.
Living in the northeast SUBurbs (Sport Utility
Bastards), I feel your displeasure with SUVs. There
are 2 H2s and Navi's, an Excursion, and countless
"mini" SUVs just on my one block. People here swear
they need the SUVs to navigate (no pun intended)
through the "harsh" winters here. I have less trouble
in the rex or 4 cyl Accord than most of them. They
need to spend a few of their monthly payments on
driving lessens then they could drive reasonably sized
cars and wouldn't need 3-4 parking spaces at the
store...
