More for completeness - If I create an archive with Crypto++, I will
verify the archive with another program (not that I don't trust you
:).

In WinZip, when the name is not present, WinZip prompts one to add a
name to the archive contained in the *.gz file. WinRAR is less
intrusive - it assumes the archive name.
