I am not a Windows guy so not sure what you mean here. First though I would
definitely code with a high warning level and do not ignore warnings, fix
those. Otherwise things will happen that will be startling.

On the link error then I imagine if you have set the paths correctly you
need to be sure the cryptlib.lib was compiled with exactly the same flags
you compile your program with. I think this is the error you would see.
