Hello,
I have a NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 AGP 8x on Windows 2000. With VBO
enabled, it gave poor results with version 77.72 of the driver. However,
upgrading to the lastest (81.95) version resulted in much better
performance.
Here are my test results:
1.8 GHz AMD Athlon XP 2400+ (32-bit)
Windows 2000
256 MB RAM
Card: GeForce4 Ti 4200
Driver 6.14.10.7772: With VBO 16 fps, without VBO 53 fps
Driver 6.14.10.8195: With VBO 197 fps, without VBO 53 fps
I also have the verbose outputs. I could post it on the list or on the
wiki, if requested.
Best regards,
Cesar Strauss

We have again enabled the VBO (vertex-buffer-object) extension by
default. With this extension large objects (meaning lots of triangles
or polygons) can get a HUGE speed benefit. However there are a few
driver/card combinations that don't work properly. On those cards VBO
will either cause unstability issues but in most cases it will just
make CS work slower then normal. Here are the list of known cases
where we disable VBO at this moment:
- ATI drivers on Linux (all versions).
- GeForce4 Go 440.
- GeForce FX 5xxx.
If you have another card and driver combination where you think VBO is
not working properly then please tell us so we can add it to the
driver database. In particular you should attempt the test as
described on the following page:
