Oh yes, your check works fine (and I appreciate that it is there :-) I was just confirming that this check is still necessary despite other bugfixes in gcc 4.0.2. Does your check test the buggy behavior directly, or just infer that the workaround is necessary based on the compiler and platform? It would stand to reason that this will be fixed in some later version of gcc, in which case the compiler check may need to be revised.
