>From a colleague in Auckland -

A number of companies are trying to develop machine to machine language translation -
particularly double byte to English and vice versa. These companies are all
experiencing differing level of success and as yet have not been able to produce a
solution that is commercially viable. The concept is for a "joint R&D project that
overcomes this obstacle for entry into the Asian market". Obviously there are a
number of commercial issues to be identified and overcome (e.g. Ownership of IP),
however, at this stage they are canvassing for feedback and expressions of interest in
being part of such an initiative.
The thought is that, if viable, a loose "cluster" of companies will contribute funds
and/or resources into a central fund that TechNZ will incorporate into a sizable TBG.

If you are interested please let me know and I'll pass on your details to the
appropriate person.

Cheers,
Cate
