Hi Did you see the business friendly editorial in The Press on Wednesday, headed Business Reality?
It's editorial, sparked by Macpac's move to manufacture offshore, said: '...Also to be celebrated are the other companies which ensure that Christchurch remains in the vanguard of the knowledge economy. .. for example Navman.. ...Where government should be playing a greater role is in creating an entrepreneurial environment which is FRIENDLIER TO BUSINESS.... reducing.. A more business-friendly environment might not have prompted Macpac to keep their manufacturing onshore. ... But IT WOULD SEND A POWERFUL AND ENCOURAGING SIGNAL TO THE INNOVATIVE AND KNOWLEDGE-BASED FIRMS REQUIRED TO DRIVE OUR ECONOMY FORWARD' (my caps). ...and that's in the 'socialist republic of Christchurch'! This is a sea change for this paper and Canterbury. What can we do to encourage them to keep promoting the value of the ICT firms to the Canterbury economy?
