Hi all

A suggestion was made for a dedicated section where contractors/consultants and
companies with need
for temporary/one-off projects can meet. The team at RealContacts tells me they need
to do one thing to make it
work better for contractors, and that is to allow you to search for jobs
and be notified of jobs based on the job being a short-term/contract
position. They are working on this, along with usability and wording to
make it clear to employers that contract work is as welcome as
permanent.

Once they have that, you will be able to set your notifications to only
hear of contract work. For now, you have to set notifications on just
the job category and location, and filter them by looking at them. But
since RealContacts only works in personal and organised networks, there
are usually less than 5 jobs per day emerging in your network. Still,
they recognise that better searching is required, not only by job length
and seniority, but also by keyword, and it's on their list of to-dos.
They appreciate all feedback and ideas, and anything I collect here I
will relay to them. Note - they are usually tuned in to the forum, too.

Regards,
James

Yes, I have a suggestion.

There is a new breed in town: Contractors.

And they are active and have no way of making themselves known through a
formal forum.

I had a chat with Grant from RealContacts, he told me some interesting
things and he asked me an even more interesting question: Have you ever
been contacted after you posted your ad in CSC web page? 'Nope, ever' I
answered. I haven't noticed it until then that indeed, no one called in
relation with any ad I posted in any of the job servers available in NZ
in their Contractors sections.

I made a few phone calls to others contractors I know (not many indeed),
I asked them the same question and invariably got the same answer: Nope!
The market may not be that strong for this, but there is a market out
there, otherwise we will not be in.

The CSC initiative with the Jobs Wanted section is the only one I know
where those actively looking for work can say so and is in plain view.
Nowhere else is this possible, hence on all servers, RealContacts
included, you can only see the available jobs, not the available people.

By the way Vicky, expect more ads soon in that section :)

And now the suggestion: Can RealContacts do something about this? A
dedicated section where contractors/consultants and companies with need
for temporary/one-off projects can meet?

Cheers,
Adrian Mageanu
