The Steam binaries currently released with CS:GO are old, and they don?t properly report when the game is out of date and the server needs to be restarted. We?ll get that sorted very soon.

Assuming that it does, it will be normal for the mods to be manually or scripted redistributions in the case of crashes after an update since auto-update for things like Sourcemod can and does fail after some Valve updates of the server. The ability to redistribute new Valve updates without smashing customer configs is not only a time consuming and expensive thing, but is fraught with peril due to the consistent changes that occur across product and mods as well as the mods now having their own auto-update. Having an anonymous login for the install seems like a good idea from a security perspective. Having ?autoupdate work seems to resolve this mail thread.
