If a Valve developer comes on and asks that the list stay with technical
discussions that will probably have the desired effect.

p.s.
New? I've been on the net since 1982 when we just called it "the net" -
professional discussions of technical details on mailing lists were normally
just that and the only outcome of posting rants was to be branded poorly -
the same can/will be true here as well - simply asking the question that
what is *right* be the norm and what is *not* right be elsewhere makes the
point.

Hi,

Could we get someone at Valve to limit the mailing list to actual problem
solving and technical questions and server details?

The current gamemodes.txt is like kick in the face comparing to the old way.
Server.cfg and map based configs in maps/cfg/mapname.cfg are much much
better solution and backwards compatible.
