Community servers don't facilitate 'pick up games' generally. Those of us who like to play standard 5 on 5 competitive games are the ones who benefit from matchmaking.
Community servers also have their place as an alternative to the 'classic casual' official servers, with the benefits of community add-ons, plugins, custom maps, a consistent community. They are for two different purposes. They both have a place.
