When you say high slot do you mean 32 slots, 64?
CS:GO is not a very memory intensive game server, even on our 64 player
CS:GO server we peak at around 1GB ram.
For 64 tick servers a virtualized 2.6Ghz Sandy Bridge Xeon should be
enough for up to 30 players per game server, but that is just an
estimate based on our usage on our E3-1270 machines(non virtual).
I sort of hinted at this before, but I think the performance issues only
occur on linux when you are maxing out a CPU core. I was forced to
temporarily move my largest CS:GO server to linux for a week, and I
noticed it would cap out at 100% CPU usage, in windows it goes up to
145%. If you are running smaller servers you may not run into this issue.
What are the advantages of virtualization here? You can buy server space
in smaller chunks?

First of all, I sincerely thank you for this unexpected fast reply,
Those specs i mentioned are based on a single average server. Which I
would guess be arround 10 - 20 players.
for the machines we would like to virtualise upon we have several options:
High CPU machines these types have one virtual core for every 0.90 GB
of RAM from 2 till 16 cores.
or High Memory types which have 6.5GB RAM per virtual core.
also from 2 till 16 cores
A virtual CPU is implemented as a single hyperthread on a 2.6GHz Intel
Sandy Bridge Xeon or Intel Ivy Bridge Xeon (or newer)
We will be hosting smaller amounts of high slot servers and several
with arround 10 to 20 slots
OS: In a farming perspective, do the costs of Windows license
overweight the profit of performance compared to Linux.
I would like to operate without virtualisation but to be honost I dont
see how this is cost efficient from a business perspective.

Hello CS-GO list members ,
My name is Michael and I am from a starting company in the
E-Sports branch
in the Netherlands.
One of our key focusses are to organise Esport events , we also have a
gaming webshop and offer server rental.
Untill now we were hosting several virtual servers on private
"home"machines these were only for private and fun use.
Now that our needs are getting bigger than our current hardware
can handle,
we are planning on investing in a dedicated server or farming VPS
instances. We want to rent out Counter-Strike GO server instances to
clients in a best practice method, these servers should also support
competitve play for tournaments. But I have some burning
questions about
this issue on what I can find almost no clear answer for so far.
*-What are the minimum server requirements for multiple (virtual)
Counter-Strike GO servers capable for max 350 users in Europe?*.
untill now I have found this data , is this accurate?
? 2gb ram
? 1.5ghz cpu dual core
? 1 gb dskspace
? HDD 15K RPM SAS drive Raid10
? Bandwidth 50.5KB/s per player
*-What sort of Fail-over methods is recommended ?* *(Network Load
Balancing, Hardware Availability)*
I am planning on using vSphere as virtualisation solution.
*-What OS is adviced?*
Currently we are using Debian and ubuntu but is CentOS, Red Hat a
better
choice considering a proper and complete support is required to offer
professional services?
Much Bless and Thanks in advance .
greetZz, Michael

Are you asking if that those specifications can host enough
servers to hold
350 users at once?

Your requirements will depend on how much overhead your virtualization
technology has. If you can operate without virtual servers, that would
be much better.
How many player slows your hardware can hold will depend on the
tickrate
of the servers(among other things). If you are looking into hosting
competitive servers at 128 tick, 350 active players will require a
dual
CPU config. Each srcds instance will use up to 500MB ram depending on
the slot count for each server.
Are you trying to host a lot of smaller, 10 player servers? If so, it
will open up the available CPUs you can use, as high slot servers
require very fast CPU cores.
Your bandwidth estimate is correct.
I would recommend windows, only because I have experience with
CS:GO on
both Linux and Windows, and right now Windows provides superior
performance for larger servers.
