There are many limitations on how you can style form elements (input,
select, and so on). Many of these are drawn by the host operating
system and can hardly be styled at all. In once I prefer it that way
because you know the form controls will look familiar to your user no
matter what os/browser is in use. Color/background changes are nice
for blending in with the rest of the design, but support varies from
client to client. It is an area where we have to be prepared to be
flexible.
