Hmm. I don't think that's right. Perhaps Roger is thinking of XHTML 1.1?

Personally, I see no reason to use a transitional DOCTYPE for any new 
design. My impression is that transitional is just that - a way-station 
when converting older designs so that deprecated elements and attributes 
can still be used, yet validate.

I'd generally agree with that. Having said that, you have made the text 
plenty big enough for me to read on my 15" 1400 x 1050 pixel laptop. But 
then, being only 70, do not suffer from vision difficulties.
