It is looking horribly broken in Internet Explorer (both 6 and 7) as
well from here.
Basically, absolute positioning seldom works as a layout mechanism.
Even if you manage to avoid various browser bugs, it tends to be very
fragile and break as soon as the user changes the font size to
soemthing they are comfortable with.

Search for other layout methods which can achieve what you are after.
