Hallo,

If you take a look at the following exemplary page:
http://www.zeno.org/Schmidt-1902/A/Petri,+Familie with IE 6 and try to
select text in the lower portion of the middle column, you might recognize
that it doesn't work properly. I am looking for ways to correct this.

The last not absolutely positioned elememnt in the flow ist the left column.
The right column and the middle column are absolutely positioned.

If I do a "Select all" on the page, I can see that
- all the text is selected, even the text that I couldn't select with
regular mouse dragging.
- it seems the browsers colors the whole area that he thinks is the "active
area" of the page with the same dark blue selection color. But this active
area ends below the bottom corner of the left menu column. I guess it is
because this is the last element in the box flow. The following elements are
positioned absolute and thus fall out of the box flow.

The bottom line of this dark blue rectangle can be seen as the end of the
"active" content. Text that is above this line can be selected, text below
the line not.

Does anybody have any idea how to corrct this?

You might wonder why I positioned the middle and the right column
absolutely. Well, my problem was that
- the middle column should have a min-width
- we'd like to live without additional css files for older browser versions.

But in Internet Explorer, if the three columns are flowed, and if you then
narrow the window until the min-width of the middle column is reached, then
the flowing divs "break" like words in a sentence and the middle div jumps
below the left div. And because the header of the page has the same three
column structure, the same happens up there, too. I knew no other way then
to position the middle and the right div absolutely.

An alternative would be to use a different css for IE. IE interprets
min-width different anyway so one could just drop the definition of
min-width or IE browsers. But if possible in any way I would like to stick
with one single css file.

Could anybody give me a hint in the right direction?
