Take a look at SmoothGallery 2.0:

It's an elegant JavaScript slideshow script that is based on mootools
framework. I would highly recommend it over a Flash-based one. It's is
accessible, crawlable by search engines and produces
Standards-Compliant code and yet is open source. All these are not
possible with a Flash-based slideshow.

For a typical live example of what you're trying to do, SmoothGallery
is used in Microsoft's Expression website:
