I have a drop-down menu system which works very well in most circumstances.
But
if a menu drops down over a positioned element, that element shows through in
IE7, though not in FF3.

Hover over 'What to do', the stars show through the drop-down (the stars are
relatively positioned asterisks).

Assigning z-index values to the menu and asterisks has no visible effect.
I can prevent it by making the menu div relatively positioned, but I'm
concerned
this may have unexpected consequences later.

Is there a better way ?
