Plenty of room for interruptions, as long as it is relevant to the
ongoing thread.
Just remove all unnecessary stuff from the post you respond to, to keep
the post-length short and the "noise" low.

IE pauses to check for image-updates on the server instead of just
grabbing it from the cache - depends on IE's internal settings.
Many designers see this as a very unwanted effect, and the time lost
while IE is updating itself varies with connection-speed.
