That said, I was expecting the W3C validator to 'have a moan', but expected a warning rather than an error. If I want to claim standards compliance, it looks like I'll have to see whether I can transfer the mouseover effect of the navigation bars from the background DIVs to the anchor tags. While I'm at it, I may as well get rid of the DIVs and convert the whole thing to an unordered list.
