Take the computed font-size (sum of UA stylesheet, author stylesheet and user stylesheet) of the element and scale it (down) by the specified factor. And for Cheetah: There are a few CSS3 transform demos floating around that do more or less the same as what you're doing. Google CSS3 coverflow or things like that.
