Older versions of MobileWebKit (e.g as used by iOS < 4.1, iirc) did only 
support @font-face with svg fonts. It is only with (Mobile) WebKit 533.x that 
support for Woff font format was added.

Now, Android < 3 doesn't support SVG at all. And I'm not sure all Android > 3 
devices support it.  It seems pretty much  undocumented.

That is an option, but be careful about performance esp on low-end devices.

Personally, I don't really care - as long as the fall back is well defined.
