I've removed most of the ugly blankness of my splash page, but two technical problems remain.
1-The horizontal positioning of the navigation and the text/pic content only work on a 1024x768 screen. I set the first at 25 percent width and the second at 75 percent width thinking they would adapt to different screen sizes. I suspect the reason it breaks on a narrower screen is that both items are floated and don't "see" each other, therefore can't work out the 25%/75% space. 2-The bottom color bars are supposed to sit at the bottom of the screen, and there should be no scrolling.
