Hello list,

At the above link, I am trying to have a fixed-width aside, with a
flexible main section. The outer wrap has a min and max width. Is this
possible? The design calls for a ribbon-type effect for some callouts
which sticks out from the aside to the right - outside the wrap. I am
assuming (uh-oh) that I need a fixed width to pull those callouts off.
Can this type of layout be done? what am I doing wrong here?
Percentage math error?
TIA
Anything is possible. But having more than a little difficulty wrapping
my head around what you want..
Assuming:
1/ A /flexible/ width left-column that is first in source order and is
always employed.
2/ A /fixed/ width column [aside] that is adjacent to the the right of
the flexible width column and is second in source order and is always
employed
3/ Another /fixed/ width column [callout] that is adjacent to the the
right of the /fixed/ width column [aside] that is only sometimes employed.
4/ The outermost wrapper for all three columns needs a min-width,
max-width, and width set.
If that's the case then a spin-off a "negative-margin" layout [no
absolute positioning needed] may (?) do the trick. As always providing
your actual content and window width requirements will buy you far more
than playing a hypothetical guessing game...
Best,
