Hey Tom,
I had this in my codepen. Made a few adjustments to taylor to your needs 
(hopefully).
I "think" this is what you're going for. The :nth-child stuff is just for demo 
purposes.
This also doesn't use flex. You will have to season to taste though and make it 
work for you.
