Hi.

Netbeans or Eclipse are perfect for this sort of thing but it's a whopping
download of over 30 Megs and is VERY taxing on your system resources when
running.

Try JEdit which is around 2 Meg in size with the JavaDebugger plugin if you
want a smaller and simpler app and don't need the power of the other 2.

JEdit can be found at: http://www.jedit.org/index.php?page=download
and the plugin can be found at: http://plugins.jedit.org/plugins/?JavaDebugger

I warn you that it's very basic but you can download the necessary plugins
when/if you need them and they tend to be small enough for a dial-up user to
download in under 10 minutes.

Kind regards,
Antoine Fortuin

Subject: [CTJUG Forum] Graphical debuggers

Hi All,

I've just joined the group. I am inexperienced with Java but have many
years of experience with programming in other languages. My son is
studying Java at school and I am learning it along with him as I try to
help him. We are currently battling to find an obscure bug in a
project he's doing and have pretty much exhausted the use of
System.out.println() to track execution paths and values of variables.
I think that we need a graphical debugger and I was hoping that you
could refer me to one. It needs to be freeware, not too large a
download and preferably run on Windows but Linux will work too.

Thanks,
Steve
