I have been working on a project involving vCalendar and vCard for the last month or two.
1.)Does anybody know of any good Java open source projects that can
help to write/read calendar streams with objects? I know of the
project called "iCal4j". Has anybody used it? Is it good?
I didn't find anything when I started out, although there were a couple of sourceforge pages up without any code for download.
5.)How does this all work with mobile devices?
I am using OBEX over Bluetooth to push vCal/vCard objects to phones; I didn't find any cell phones with iCalendar support (admittedly, I wasn't looking very hard). The idea is that phones know what to do with the files if you send them using OBEX: vCard goes into the phone book and vCalendar in to calendar software.
We had horrible experiences with phones not supporting various fields.. one phone, for instance, with no support for a location field in vCalendar event objects. Also many phones seemed to leave out description / note / summary fields.
Data transfer rates with OBEX were found to be very dependent on the phone, but this probably won't be relevant if you aren't including binaries in the files.
Regards,
Fritz
