Some time ago I read something similar that was for real. A dude wrote a utility to crack the password protection on spreadsheets for an early version of Excel (or maybe it was zip files, whatever). It was almost instant and his customers felt ripped off. So he put in a little busy comand line anamation and made it take several seconds :)
