Following are some comments about “learnatest.com” from a librarian in the CTLS region:

________________________________________________________________

I had heard about the Learn-a-Test and went through one of the trials late last year.  I was hoping that this would solve the problem of the disappearing test guides.  I didn't sample all the tests, but I did try several of them.  I deliberately gave wrong answers some of the time to see what would happen.  The site pretty well lived up to what it claims, BUT I decided not to subscribe for the following reasons:

1.  Learning Express uses the tests as a vehicle to sell its own products  -- courses, etc.  This was not mentioned in any sales pitch I heard. There's no requirement to purchase anything, of course, but I have a hard time with the idea of paying almost $1,000 a year so someone can try and sell something to patrons.  I also don't recall ever subscribing to any kind of data base or service where this occurred.  It bothers and disappoints me, but it might not bother other people.

2.  There was no way I could complete one of the ASVAB tests in the time allotted.  There was one question per page; I had to wait for a new page to load before I could continue, and I ran out of time.  (I don't know whether my Internet connection had anything to do with this; I mentioned it it Tori, but I don't know what the resolution was).  (The other tests I tried were OK).

So, I'm back to the printed exam guides.  Guess how I'll be using some of my CTLS CD money?
