TITLE: The ABC's of Cataloging: Web-based DESCRIPTION: Learn the basics of computer-based catalog records for use in online and web-based databases. This series of two-month online courses will introduce the student to essential knowledge and skills involved in funding, using, creating and editing descriptions of materials, or metadata in the automated library environment. Standard tools for this area of 21st-century library enterprise include the recently amended Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, the MARC 21 Bibliographic Format, and current editions of the Dewey Decimal classification and Library of Congress Subject Headings. Participants will receive group and individualized attention via a class discussion list, two chat rooms, and personal mail within the WebCT course software.
