To promote the Summer Reading Club theme of "Read Across Texas" our library mascot wants to read across Texas by visiting other libraries in the Lone Star State.

His name is Bumper the armadillo.  He lives in the Youth Department at the Bedford Public Library.  He is a well-mannered hand puppet who dons a black cowboy hat.  Bumper loves to take pictures of the local sites, mail postcards home and join kids at storytime.

Bumper requires little staff time.  He travels via TExpress, your ILL delivery service.  He will arrive in an "almost" live animal carrier.  He always travels with several disposable cameras so the host library can take pictures of Bumper at the local sites and at storytimes.  When the camera is filled the host library returns the camera via TExpress.  No waiting in line at the post office, shipping fees or photo processing.  Bumper is cheap.

Bumper will also have a list of email addresses for the other libraries, which have confirmed for a Bumper visit.  So as not to wear out his welcome, tell him to hit the trail after about a week or so.

What do you get out of a visit from Bumper?  Your library can share with the children a visitor who loves to read and is willing to take this journey to prove it.

What do we get out of Bumper's travels?
We will have a large map of Texas in the Youth Department where Bumper's postcards and pictures will be displayed for the kids.

If you are interested in having Bumper bunk up with you please email.
