We have a small room that is tiled instead of carpeted. It was supposed to
be a craft room, but we use it as an extension of the children's room
instead. It is a pain to take care of--you have to make sure it is mopped
AND dried prior to opening; if you have to clean up a spill during the day,
you have to watch carefully to keep people from slipping (and suing); it
echoes like crazy, making the library much louder.

We are looking into carpeting the room to solve these problems. We are very
anxious to do this because we believe the advantages far outweight the
disadvantages.

We do craft time in the carpeted meeting room, and I can honestly say that
we have not experienced any problems from doing crafts in a carpeted area.
The children have not been responsible for any of the stains on the carpet;
those have all come from adults who served food and/or drinks at their
meetings. There is nothing like a spilled tureen of gravy to stain a
carpet!

I am getting ready to replace the carpet in the Children's room at the
Library. The City financial staff wants to use tile with an area rug to
save money. I think it would be too noisy. Does anyone have tile instead
of carpet?
