I think the reason you're seeing more damage to your DVDs than to your videos or CDs is that the original packaging for most DVDs has cases with this dreadfully awful hub that won't let go of the DVD. Well, it will if you know exactly where to push, but most people don't. It would be a good investment to repackage your DVDs in easier-to-use cases. You can get good cases for about 40-44 cents each from the two major video supply stores. They will take P.O.s and set up accounts for libraries.
