Good Morning. I have had several questions as a result of the email I sent out yesterday listing the databases that will be available to the TexShare membership starting July 1,2003. I would like to address the most common questions I have received so far. I apologize if yesterday's message created any confusion and thanks for all the questions, it gives me a chance to stay in contact with our membership. It's nice to know my emails are read! Q. Will we still get Searchasaurus from Ebsco? A. Yes, Searchasaurus is an interface only, not a database. You will still have this interface to use on EBSCOhost. Q. Has TDNet become a TexSelect item? A. No, my fault here. My list in the email came from a table I created. TDNet was at the bottom of the table nicely set off by grid marks all by itself, distinguishing itself as a librarian's utility tool. When stripped from the table and placed in an email, TDNet looks as if it is now a TexSelect option. Wrong, it is still a TexShare Core option, a utility tool for all to use. Q. Your email said "Starting July 1st, 2003, the following core TexShare Databases will continue to be available to libraries at no charge". I thought we had to start paying for the databases, now I am all confused. Can you explain please? A. All TexShare Core databases will be free for TexShare members to use during the period July 1, 2003 - June 30, 2004. We are instituting fees for TexShare Members in the Fall of 2003 to collect revenue to help pay for database subscriptions. This was a directive given to the TSLAC by the Legislative Budget Board. This fee will be used to pay for the database subscription period commencing July 1, 2004 and ending June 30, 2005. The money you will pay in the fall of 2003 does not pay for the databases you currently have access to or will have access to starting on July 1, 2003; the money collected in the fall will be used to pay for database subscriptions that will begin in July 2004. Questions about the collection of fees may be directed to Ann Mason, TexShare Coordinator. Her contact information is: Ann Mason,TexShare Coordinator,Texas State Library & Archives Commission,512-463-0188,[EMAIL PROTECTED] I hope this clarifies some issues for you. If you more questions please contact me. Thanks.
