ALAWON: American Library Association Washington Office Newsline
Volume 12, Number 60
June 30, 2003

In This Issue: The latest on CIPA

The Federal Communications Commission has released a public notice
announcing that its suspension of CIPA requirements for libraries will
remain in effect until the Commission acts or until the recent Supreme
Court decision goes into effect, (July 18, 2003) whichever comes first.
A link to the full FCC document can be found at www.ala.org/cipa.
ALA has collected a large number of questions from the library
community about the CIPA Supreme Court decision and we are seeking
appropriate assistance in answering these questions. Expect to see a Q &
A along with a plain language analysis of the decision posted on
www.ala.org/cipa in the later part of this week.
The Institute of Museum and Library Services is now reviewing the
opinion and will provide updated guidance to the State Library
Administrative Agencies by August 1, 2003.
To keep up with the latest information on CIPA, please visit
www.ala.org/cipa, and continue to stay tuned to ALAWON.
