I have good news from our office. Instead of announcing another database
will be cut from the core collection I am happy to announce that access to
the Digitized Sanborn Map of Texas has been restored. Our fiscal year ends
on August 31st and as we finalize all payments to vendors and close out
accounts enough money was found to restore access to the Sanborn Map of
Texas. I would like to thank our Proquest vendor Oliver Kelzenberg for
working with us to maintain access to the map during the month of July as we
explored ways to fund access for one more year. You may not see a link to
the Sanborn map today on our website. We are working on our website and the
link may not appear until next week. If you never disabled the link then it
should already be restored on your menu page.

I have received the same question about access to the Sanborn Maps several
times and I would like to take a moment to answer this question. People
always ask: "Doesn't TexShare own the Map, wasn't it a one time purchase?
Why do you have to pay a yearly access fee?". The answer is yes, TexShare
did purchase the map for a one time fee but there is a yearly access fee
that must be paid to ProQuest in order for our membership to view the map.
This access fee pays for the electronic maintenance of the map, server
space, technical assistance, etc....Proquest charges us this amount to
maintain, monitor and manage the database.

If you have more questions about this please contact me. Thanks.
