As I'm sure you have heard, there is a particularly serious Internet worm
making the rounds right now. The worm not only compromises the security of
infected systems, it can also cause serious performance issues. This worm
infects Windows 2000 and Windows XP. You can get more information at:

Norton:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.htm
l

McAfee:
http://us.mcafee.com/virusInfo/default.asp?id=description&virus_k=100547

What do you need to do? Nothing that you shouldn't be doing already.

1) Make sure you computers have the latest security patches and service
packs. You can check each computer by opening Microsoft Internet Explorer
and visiting http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/. You can check for updates
and MS will provide you with a list of critical updates and a link to
download and install them.

2) Make sure that each of your machines is running an antivirus program and
that the virus definitions are current. Antivirus programs should be set to
update virus definitions automatically. Set your computer to update every
day.

If a machine should become infected, there are removal tools for getting rid
of the worm. The Norton removal tool is available at
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.rem
oval.tool.html.
