Subject: SLM - Session III

The Texas State Library would like to announce that the third
session (Collection Development) of the current Small Library Management
Training Program will be conducted in Spring 2004. We will make
additional
announcements regarding dates and locations at a later date.
The Small Library Management Training Program is an ongoing,
voluntary program that provides management skills to nonMLIS library
staff
of small community (25,000 or less population) libraries in Texas. Each
session is tailored to provide essential management skills for library
professionals who are responsible for (or would like to learn more
about)
planning, creating and justifying budgets, hiring and supervising staff,
ordering and weeding library materials, and developing policies.
The program consists of five two-day workshops in five locations
around the state offered over a two and one half year period. Each
session
is offered at four or five locations in the spring and fall in the
following
order:
                        Session I - Management I: Administration and
Planning (Fall 2002)
Session II - Management II: Advanced Management
Issues (Held Spring 2003)
Session III - Collection Development (To be
held
Spring 2004)
                        Session IV - Reference Services
Session V - Technology and Automation
