For your information...

Dear All,

If you have not yet placed your order for 2004 Texas Reading Club materials,
or if you would like to change your order, there is still time to do so.
Please go to http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/ld/projects/trc/forms/order.html and
enter your library's contact information and the quantities of posters,
manuals, bookmarks, certificates, and reading logs that you need.

Since August, 2003, many libraries have placed orders for programming
manuals, posters, mini-posters, bookmarks, reading logs (time and title),
certificates, as well as marketing and planning manuals for the 2004 Texas
Reading Club. The Texas State Library has entered these orders into an
Excel Spreadsheet, which has been uploaded onto the web at:
www.tsl.state.tx.us/ld/projects/trc/orderconfirm.html. Please check the
spreadsheet to make sure that your library's order is correct.

If you discover that your order is incorrect, please re-submit your entire
order online at www.tsl.state.tx.us/ld/projects/trc/forms/order.html. At
the bottom of the form, please indicate that you have made
"Changes/Revisions to a Previous Order."

If you do not find the name of your library on the spreadsheet, then TSLAC
has not received your order. Please place a new order online at
www.tsl.state.tx.us/ld/projects/trc/forms/order.html. At the end of the
order form, please indicate that yours is a "New Order."

When ordering, please estimate the quantity of each item that you will need
based on your 2003 reading club participation. As a guideline, TSLAC
recommends that libraries order items in the following quantities:

Reading Club Manual: 1 for each librarian supervising the Texas Reading
Club. The Texas State Library is pleased to announce that, for the first
time, the 2004 Texas Reading Club (TRC) manual will be available on CD-ROM.
We are excited to offer you the opportunity to receive the manual in this
format, which has the following advantages! --Faster production -- resulting
in faster delivery time. The manuals on CD-ROM will be mailed in November
or December, at least a month earlier than the printed manuals. --Clip-art
and craft illustrations and patterns will be downloadable in a digital
format and printable. You will have the ability to cut and paste the text,
clip art, and craft patterns and illustrations for use in flyers, brochures,
bookmarks, and other promotional items and incentives. ---Direct links to
web sites cited in the manual.

1. Posters and Mini-Posters: Please order only enough to display in
your library, in local schools, and in your community to publicize your
reading club. NOTE: It is cost-prohibitive for TSLAC to order sufficient
quantities of posters for libraries to distribute them as incentives to
reading club participants.
2. Bookmarks: Please order 1 for each child who will participate in
your reading club.
3. Reading Logs: Please order a sufficient quantity of time and title
reading logs for your reading club participants. Some children may request
more than one reading log.
4. Certificates: Please order 1 certificate for each child who will
complete your reading club.
5. Marketing the Texas Reading Club (1993) and A Librarian's Planning
Handbook for a Read-to-Me Club (1993) may be ordered as needed. These are
especially helpful to librarians who will host a reading club for the first
time.

Please remember to order the NUMBER OF PACKAGES of bookmarks, certificates,
and title or time reading logs that you will need. Each package contains
100 items. For example, if you will need 500 certificates, please order 5
packages.

Reading Club Manuals will be mailed by January 31, 2004. The posters,
certificates, bookmarks, and reading logs will be mailed to libraries
throughout the State by March 31, 2004. If you have any questions or if you
do not have access to the Internet, please contact Julie Wood
