Austin Public Library will host a program with noted author/illustrator Arthur Howard on Tuesday, October 14, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. at the Old Quarry Branch Library. Howard is the illustrator of Mr. Putter & Tabby Pour the Tea (by Cynthia Rylant), The Bubba and Beau series (by Kathi Appelt), and is both author and illustrator of Cosmo Zooms, When I was Five, and Hoodwinked. An artist all his life, he was influenced by his mother at a very young age. He first became an actor on a children's televisions series called Square One, but after 7 years on the show, he decided to go back to his first love, drawing pictures. The free program is open to students, teachers, librarians, aspiring writers or illustrators, parents, and anyone else interested in children's literature. The Old Quarry Branch is located at 7051 Village Center Drive. The program will include a book signing, presentation and opportunity to ask questions of the author. Proceeds from the book sale benefit the Friends of the Austin Public Library. Special thanks to Harcourt Children's Books for bringing this wonderful author/illustrator to Austin!
