Hi, all. I hope everyone is having a good week after all the holiday festivities.

I have a question regarding joining ALA.

I was a member for two years, but never was active. It was just like a very expensive magazine subscription, and my previous library would not pay for my membership—it came out of my own pocket.

Now that I’m in Texas, I rely on CTLS for most needs that I’d use my membership to a professional association for. (I hope that sentence made sense to someone, somewhere.) TLA is good, too, as far as being in the loop on goings-on in the library world. My opinion at this point is that it would be a waste of money for the city I work for to pay for me to join and go to ALA.

What are other people’s opinions?
What are your experiences regarding
ALA or any other nation-wide organization?
TIA,

Jenny Ur
